Lifelong Learning

The Terminology Lab promotes and organises lifelong learning activities addressed to academic staff of the DIT Department, to freelance translators (and in particular graduates of the Department’s degrees), and to the personnel of local companies wishing to brush up their skills and knowledge for continuing education and professional development.

These are regularly advertised on the news & events page, as well as on our workshop page.

Activities include:

  • courses on SDL Trados, MemoQ and other leading software solutions for assisted and automated translation
  • courses on the use of technology for language-related purposes (e.g. document editing and management)
  • courses on specialised translation and L2 writing (particularly in English as a Lingua Franca)

As an SDL Approved Training Centre, we are able to run training courses in partnership with SDL Trados at different levels. All SDL courses are held by University of Bologna adjunct professor Claudia Lecci, who is also an SDL certified trainer with a ten year experience. They include:

  • SDL Certification exams
  • SDL approved training material

For more details on SDL Trados workshops see this page.

Our workshops will engage participants in hands-on activities that focus on the use of technology for translation, terminology management, document editing, localisation and website management systems.

More recently, we have launched a new series of workshops on language for specific purposes, addressed to both translators with little or no experience in highly specialised fields (e.g. medicine), and to other professionals who wish to enhance their communication strategies for ensuring international visibility to their work.

Besides holding workshops at the Lab on a regular basis, we also carry out in-house training for companies and local enterprises as a result of a specific request or following a needs analysis. For more information, please refer to the dedicated website section.
